Steedly School 2010

The boys and I have been learning alot about ourselves, each other and what we need to do this school at home thing...

We have learned that the plan we started with didnt really work very well. We have since changed to a new curriculum that is working alot better, more flexible and fits our learning and teaching styles better.

We get to make our days all about learning about things we love, dwelling on the things we are excited about, speeding through the stuff we already have figured out and none of it in front of the computer like before. We also get to include our brother more ..which Canon likes.

This is our model of the ocean and the three ships of Columbus on Columbus day (x2 sets :)...I didnt take pics of a few days later when they made sea creatures and Ty suggested they make them eat the ships on the ocean :) ..or when we used the ships to learn about the current (aka, the sink after we swirled it with our hands in a whirlpool :) ..so fun.

 It is possible that mommy was more excited about these cute little boats and the awesome ocean to put them in, than the boys were.  Its possible.

These are their "listening ears" ..we were learning about the verse "whoever belongs to God listens to what he says"

 Ty was learning about Russia, and got really into the folk dancers that we watched on YouTube (an invaluable tool in Steedly School). The two of them were hilarious :)

 

 These are the elephants we made to remind us that the pilgrims didnt know what kind of animals they would see in the New World :)

 As a disclaimer, let me say that these were all ideas we got from our curriculum and some great resources otherwise. The pics dont show the whining about not being able to play with their toys during school, or mommy saying "get your feet off the table!" or the wreck that the house is because we are making little ships out of egg cartons instead of keeping the house in order :)
